HOW WE MEASURE MOTOR POWER
If you've been shopping for an e-bike for a while, you've probably seen a lot of companies use "Watts" to measure their motors' power (500W, 750W, etc). At Casa Bikes, we have been working on e-bikes for over 20 years, and we have seen over and over that motor wattage is not necessarily reflective of how much power your motor can generate (or even how fast you can go). One bike's 500W motor may zip up a hill while another bike's 750W motor might inch along like a turtle. So instead, we use a measurement that is more accurate: Newton Meters. Newton Meters is a measurement of the amount of power your motor can put out to move your bicycle (and you!). This is especially helpful when comparing mid-drive motors to hub motors. Mid drive motors can be less than half the watts of a hub motor but still have higher torque. That's because they are often more efficient and higher quality. Using newton meters helps you to easily compare different bikes to see what works best for you.
